Surfing Playa Avellanas & Costa Rica
Playa Avellanas is located in the Guanacaste province, near Playa Junquillal and Playa Negra. This isolated beach offers a calm atmosphere with lots of nature; it is considered one of the most beautiful in the area. Playa Avellanas is located also 10 kilometers south of Playa Tamarindo, which is known for the different activities that take place all year round, like surf competitions and the Marathon; one of the most famous is the Third Edition of Tamarindo Beach to be held on September, 17, 2011.
The Surf Camp Mediterraneo is only 3 minutes away from the main entrance to Playa Avellanas.
Playa Avellanas has more than five different surfing
points located on a 2 mile stretch offering a large variety of
possibilities with left and right runs in the best surf spots
in Costa Rica.
It has some of the most perfect waves with swells coming in both from
the Northern and Southern Hemisphere.
Along the beach you will be able to find a variety of well known breaks like:
El Parqueo, this spot offers soft lefts and rights perfect
for the less experienced surfers.
La Purruja is a reef break very famous for the most experienced
surfers.
El Palo, is known for its peak forming a rideable wave both left
and right.
El Estero this break is very consistent and its peak makes great
formed lefts and rights over reef and sandy bottom.
Little Hawaii is the most famous spot of Playa Avellanas only
for experts. This reef break creates mostly right hander waves which can
get up to 18 feet.
